Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

North Gwinnett Middle School will continue efforts to build an exemplary social and emotional learning {SEL) program that provides relevant and supportive professional learning and resources for staff, students, and families.

  1. Staff will complete the district SEL training at the beginning of the school year.
  2. PBIS training on the school and classroom matrices will occur for staff during preplanning and students during the first week of school.
  3. Advisement/PBIS lessons will be delivered three times a month to support students' social and emotional learning.
  4. Clubs for each and every student during the school day will continue once a month throughout the year.
  5. Cultural Week and "We are North" will continue to highlight and celebrate all of the culture and diversity within our community.
  6. Staff events to promote teamwork and wellness will occur quarterly.
  7. Teacher leaders will provide quarterly SEL and PBIS professional learning for staff members.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

North Gwinnett Middle School will focus on high-quality Tier 1 instruction for all students that includes targeted small groups, grade-level curriculum, ongoing formative assessments, and progress monitoring.

  1. Analyze and disaggregate data in CLTs to determine the next steps for planning and instruction (utilize CLT self-assessment rubric)
  2. Continue MTSS Implementation for both academic support and supportive community.
  3. Utilize peer observations, classroom walkthroughs and feedback (informal and formal) to enhance and monitor Tier 1 instruction (GTES)
  4. Continue and grow the use of small group instruction weekly within each classroom.
  5. Lead differentiated professional development plan allowing teachers to learn methods for improving Tier 1 instructional practices for gifted, cotaught, and multilingual learners.
  1. Staff Survey: The "Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment" category from the Nine Characteristics of High Performing Schools will increase from 86% to 89% on the 2023-24 EES survey data.
  2. Looking at a multiyear trend data analysis, our goal is for a 5% increase in students scoring proficient and distinguished as measured on the 2024 administration of the Georgia Milestones grade-level content assessments for 6-8 Language Arts, Math, and 8th grade Science and Social Studies.
  3. The goal of 95% of students scoring in the proficient and distinguished range as measured on the 2024 administration of the district-level content assessments for 6th and 7th grade Science and Social Studies.
  4. CLT Self Assessment: The rating of a 5 for "Analyzing Team Data" will increase from 47.1% to 50%. 
Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

North Gwinnett Middle School will expand student opportunities to engage in and access high-quality rigorous curriculum and enrichment activities such as Fine Arts, gifted, STEM, and career technical education.

  1. Continue to provide acceleration in mathematics for students.
  2. Begin a Vex Robotics Team, along with our First Lego League Team to allow more STEM opportunities for students.
  3. Continue to use the iReady universal screener to identify students for gifted testing.
  4. Continue our day clubs to allow all students the opportunity to engage in individualized interests.
  5. Continue to evaluate our before and after-school club offerings to make them inclusive, innovative, and relevant for future career aspirations.
  6. Increase student involvement in Science and Engineering Fair.
  1. The effectiveness of this initiative will be measured by the following Student Educational Effectiveness Survey- The "High Standards and Expectation" category from the Nine Summary Characteristics will increase by 3% from 87% "Almost Always" and "Often True" to 90% on the 2023-34 survey data.

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

North Gwinnett Middle School will measure student success by utilizing the Results-Based Evaluation System (RBES) to support school improvement and student achievement.

  1. Continued focus on small group instruction to remediate and enrich student learning in each core academic classroom.
  2. Differentiated professional development plan to give teachers topics in areas needed for their students.  These will be taught by teacher leaders in our building with support from county staff and resources.
  3. Continue learning walks for teachers to observe and learn effective instructional strategies from their colleagues.

Excellence 4.C - World-Class Communication and Engagement

Improve two-way communication, engagement, and outreach in order to connect all stakeholders within the North Gwinnett Community.

 

  1. ParentSquare- the interaction with information and use of by families.  There will be weekly newsletters sent by ParentSquare.
  2. Continue telling our story on Facebook regularly; both on events and accolades achieved but our students and faculty.
  3. Hold a parent information night with International Newcomers Center translators to support family communication and engagement.
  4. Teachers keep their "Week at a Glance" template updated in eCLASS.
  5. Teachers regularly communicate with parents about academic performance.
