Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

Brookwood Elementary is committed to a positive school environment where a focus is placed on student and staff well-being through prioritizing self-care, physical and mental health, and social emotional learning. We want all students and adults to feel safe, productive, and happy at school.

  1. Promote strong, positive classroom communities through embedded opportunities to develop relationships.(morning meetings, joyful learning, brain breaks, etc..)
  2. Counselor interventions for students as part of the multi-tiered system of supports.
  3. Promote staff well-being by building relationships among faculty and staff across teams. 
  4. Work collaboratively in teams weekly to support colleagues and students implement effective instructional improvement across classrooms.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Brookwood Elementary will use a multi-tiered system of supports to address academic and non-academic needs and remove barriers to success. Brookwood Elementary will use observational data, anecdotal, and performance data to ensure that every student demonstrates growth and has a clear path to content mastery. 

  1. Refine the roles, duties, and responsibilities of the MTSS team.
  2. Continue to provide professional development for staff in rigorous Tier I instruction, differentiation, small group instruction, formative assessments, data collection, and data-driven instructional decisions to meet the needs of diverse learners. 
  3. Continue dedicated 30 minute (minimum) "Colt Time" used for intervention and acceleration in all classrooms.
  4. Implement evidence-based interventions at increasing levels of intensity as needed for students. 
  5. The MTSS Team and the PBIS Team will track academic and behavioral data trends to facilitate Tier II Conversations to support student growth. 
  1. Increase the percentage of students in grades 3-5 reading on or above grade level as measured by the Georgia Milestones. (Baseline: 83% in grades 3-5 reading on/above grade level. Goal: 85% in 3rd-5th grades reading on/above grade level on the 2024 Georgia Milestones assessment.) 
  2. Decrease the percentage of students in grades 3-5 scoring in the beginning range on the English Language Arts portion of the Georgia Milestones. (3rd Grade Baseline:18%, Goal:15%; 4th Grade Baseline:15%, Goal:12%; 5th Grade Baseline:14%, Goal:11%)
Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Brookwood Elementary will have a variety of opportunities for students to engage in high quality, rigorous, culturally relevant curriculum and enrichment activities.

  1. Brookwood Elementary will continue to offer a variety of clubs, classes, and activities to enhance student growth and involvement. Brookwood Elementary will offer 2 weekly classes of Play2Learn Early Learning for our community. 

  2. Additional Early Intervention staff members have been added to implement supports.
  3. Additional staff members have been added to reduce class size. 
  4. Brookwood Elementary offers an entrepreneurship specials class for K-5 students to encourage creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

Brookwood Elementary will utilize the Results-Based Evaluation System (RBES) comprised of inputs, behaviors, and outcomes to support school improvement and student growth.

1. Focused walkthroughs to monitor and provide feedback on instructional implementation toward goals.

Increase the percentage of students scoring in Proficient and Distinguished levels on the Georgia Milestones ELA assessment in 3rd-5th grades.3rd Grade: Baseline:60%, Goal: 64%; 4th Grade: Baseline:61%, Goal: 65%;  5th Grade: Baseline:62%, Goal: 67%. 

Excellence 4.A - Preferred Education Destination

Brookwood Elementary and the Brookwood Cluster Schools strive to create positive, inclusive, high performing schools that are the preferred education destination for students, staff, families and community. 

  1. Cultivate a positive climate and culture that is student centered.

  2. Create high quality engaging lessons aligned to the grade level standard.
  3. Active PTA that supports students and staff at Brookwood Elementary.
  4. Use the school and classroom newsletters as a way to increase family engagement and school partnership in teaching and learning. 
  5. Continue family events that encourage involvement and active participation from our families in their child's education.
