Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

Simpson Elementary School to will continue to increase staff attendance, morale, and social/emotional learning to promote positive cultural outcomes for all stakeholders. 

1. Continue with professional learning and implementation of morning meetings, warm welcomes, and optimistic closings (Social Emotional Learning/ SEL).

2. Continuation on Tier 2 of our Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program by utilizing our school matrix, Starbucks, check-in/check-out system with PBIS Coaches, and discipline data digs. 

3. Restructuring of Counseling lessons and supports to focus on SEL with all school stakeholders. 

4. Continue to increase the number of Clubs & Activities for students; create a before/after school staff wellness club.

 

Growth will be monitored through Student, Staff, and Family Educational Effectiveness Surveys (EES) using the following Spring, 2023 baseline data:

Staff Wellbeing- I received training on instruction to support Social/Emotional Learning, baseline 2023 of 91% with a goal of 93% or more by Spring, 2024.  

Student Wellbeing- Adults in this school help me plan and set goals for my future, baseline 2023 of 88% with a goal of 90% or more by Spring, 2024. 

Family Wellbeing- I am informed about the progress towards the improvement goals for this school, baseline 2023 of 88% with a goal of 90% or more by Spring, 2024. 

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

During the 2023-2024 school year, Simpson Elementary will increase the academic performance in English/Language Arts for all students in

  • Grade 3 with a score of 87% or more in the proficient and distinguished categories;
  • Grade 4 with a score of 88% or more in the proficient and distinguished categories;
  • Grade 5 with a score of 80% or more in the proficient and distinguished categories; 

on the district and Milestones EOG Assessments in English/Language Arts with at least 50% or more in the Distinguished category.

During the 2023-2024 school year, Simpson Elementary will increase the academic performance in math for all students in

  • Grade 3 with a score of 89% or more in the proficient and distinguished categories;
  • Grade 4 with a score of 90% or more in the proficient and distinguished categories;
  • Grade 5 with a score of 80% or more in the proficient and distinguished categories; 

on the district and Milestones EOG Assessments in math with at least 50% or more in the Distinguished category.

  1. Teachers will meet twice weekly during collaborative learning time  (CLT) to collaborate, share best practices, and analyze data using their data notebooks and RBES online spreadsheets. Teachers will also review K-5th Grade iReady Diagnostic Assessment Data to ensure students are reaching/exceeding predicted outcome scores. A plan will be implemented to provide additional support for Tier 2 & Tier 3 students as needed with training from district Level Literacy interventions and Literacy Coaching Training. Administrators, teacher leaders, and grade chairs will lead collaborative planning sessions. Updates will be shared monthly during our Leadership Advisory Team (LAT) meetings.
  2. Twice a week, teachers will participate in grade-level collaborative learning team (CLT) sessions, teachers, coaches, and administrators will review instructional calendars, curriculum standards, achievement level descriptors, and assessment data to develop appropriate instructional lesson plans for next steps that directly align with the AKS standards.
  3. MTSS Implementation Team will meet regularly scheduled meetings to support professional learning on interventions (Fundations, Just Words, mCLASS, Wilson, LLI, Spire). In addition, the team will implement MTSS processes like data conversations, student support team meetings and kid talks. We will also participate in the schoolwide use of professional learning on Imagine Learning, Amplify, and iReady. 

     

Teachers will meet and participate during digital days every nine weeks to disaggregate data from District Assessments, iReady, and Milestones to determine next steps. A plan for re-teaching the lowest strands and analyzing student work against Achievement Level Descriptors (ALD’s) will be devised. The administrative team will utilize the LSPI Monitoring Tool and GTES Observations by providing specific feedback to support instructional best practices. We will also participate in ongoing district professional learning with PLO/APLO, administrative GTES Calibration sessions, ELA Boot-camps, QPTS, and Data Talks with teachers to monitor student achievement gains.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Each and every student deserves access to a high-quality curriculum and rigorous/relevant coursework and enrichment activities. In addition, we will monitor how many minority students receive eligibility for the gifted program with a Spring, 2023 baseline goal of increasing our student population from 80 students to 90 or more using the iReady Universal Screener and Gifted Portfolio Implementation (see attachment for details).

 

 

Professional Learning for all K-5 reading/writing teachers on the EL Curriculum pilot materials, LETRS, iReady, MTSS, OG, SPIRE, Computer Science, LLT, MLT, TI, Gifted and PBIS Training:

Preferred Education Destination: Simpson Elementary will be the first choice of students and families for an excellent education and high engagement for staff leadership opportunities. 

 

1. Build Parent Capacity through Parent workshops & events (P2L).

  • Excellence 4A - Staff Question: This school has a data-driven improvement plan with measurable goals, Spring, 2023 Baseline of 98% with a goal of 82% or greater in the “Almost Always True” Category by Spring, 2024. 
  • Excellence 4A - Student Question: My teacher(s) help me learn by challenging me with interesting activities in class, Spring, 2023 Baseline of 90% with a goal of 40% or greater in the “Almost Always True” Category by Spring, 2024.
