Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

At Duncan Creek Elementary, each and every student will have access to High-Quality Tier 1 instruction that addresses the grade level curriculum consistently. We will use formative assessments to identify academic and non-academic strengths/needs to be addressed through targeted small group instruction, tiered interventions, and progress monitoring.

  • Communication of Instructional Focus-Assessment Strategies, Assessment Uses, Differentiated Instruction

  • Utilize CLT self-assessment rubric to guide coaches and administrators with CLT Improvements 

  • Focus on implementation of EL Education, analyzing new math standards,  and analyzing data to determine next steps for instruction

  • Utilize peer observations, classroom walkthroughs and feedback (informal and formal) to enhance and monitor Tier 1 instruction (GTES)

  • New Teacher Orientation, mentoring, and ongoing professional learning to support effective classroom strategies

  • Continue MTSS Implementation (utilize MTSS Air Rubric)

  • Continue implementation of local school PBIS

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Duncan Creek Elementary is committed to providing each and every student opportunity and access to high quality instruction through engaging and rigorous learning opportunities.  We will align our instruction across all classrooms to  increase student opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in multiple sub groups.

  • Analyze and disaggregate data to determine the next steps for planning and instruction 

  • Dedicated 45 minute intervention block built into each child’s day for enrichment & intervention opportunities

  • Review iReady data at least twice a year to identify students for additional services including gifted screening

  • Restorative Practices & Acclimation training

  • Continue to encourage participation in the Coaching, ESOL and Gifted Endorsement Program

  • Continue to engage in activities that build and reinforce cultural awareness and inclusivity

  • Continue to promote Early Learning Activities that enhance school readiness
