Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

North Gwinnett Middle School will continue efforts to build an exemplary social and emotional learning {SEL) environment for staff, students, and families.

  1. Provide families with a calendar of advisement and counseling lesson topics in the newsletter each month.

  2. PBIS training on the school and classroom matrices will occur for staff during preplanning and students during the first week of school.

  3. Advisement/PBIS lessons will be delivered three times a month to support students' social and emotional learning.

  4. Clubs for each and every student during the school day will continue once a month throughout the year.

  5. Cultural Week and "We are North" will continue to highlight and celebrate all of the culture and diversity within our community.

  6. Therapy dog “Taco” visits the school every Monday to see all staff and students.

  7. Staff events to promote teamwork and wellness will occur quarterly.

  8. Hold “New to North” small groups to acclimate new students to North Gwinnett Middle School.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

North Gwinnett Middle School will focus on high-quality Tier 1 instruction for each and every student.

  1. Analyze and disaggregate data in CLTs to determine the next steps for planning and instruction.

  2. Continue MTSS implementation for both academic and supportive communities focusing on Tier 1 strategies.

  3. Utilize peer observations, classroom walkthroughs, and feedback (informal and formal) to enhance and monitor Tier 1 instruction (GTES).

  4. Continue and grow the use of small group instruction weekly within each classroom.

  5. Lead a differentiated professional development plan allowing teachers to learn methods for improving Tier 1 instructional practices.

 

  1. Staff Survey: The "Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment" category from the Nine Characteristics of High Performing Schools will increase from 90% to 92% on the 2024-25 EES survey data.
  2. Looking at a multiyear trend data analysis, our goal is for a 5% increase in students scoring proficient and distinguished; including a 3% increase in the distinguished category, as measured on the 2025 administration of the Georgia Milestones grade-level content assessments for 6-8 Language Arts, Math, and 8th grade Science and Social Studies.
  3. Students scoring in the mastered category on district-level final exams will each have an increase of 5 percentage points from the scores on the 2023-24 administration.
Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

North Gwinnett Middle School will expand student opportunities to engage in and access high-quality rigorous curriculum and enrichment activities.

  1. Continue to provide acceleration in mathematics for students.

  2. Continue the growth of our Vex Robotics Club, along with our First Lego League Club to allow more STEM opportunities for students.

  3. Continue to use the iReady universal screener to identify students for gifted testing.

  4. Continue our day clubs to allow all students the opportunity to engage in individualized interests.

  5. Increase student involvement in Science and Engineering Fair through integrating it into the Engineering class curriculum

 

  1. Student Educational Effectiveness Survey: The "High Standards and Expectation" category from the Nine Summary Characteristics will increase by 2% from 89% "Almost Always" and "Often True" to 91% on the 2024-25 survey data.
  2. The number of students participating in First Lego League and Vex robotics teams.
  3. The number of students tested for gifted during the 24-25 school year based on the iReady screening.
  4. The number of students participating in the Science and Engineering Fair will increase from 5 to 20 students.
Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

North Gwinnett Middle School will measure student success by utilizing the Results-Based Evaluation System (RBES) to support school improvement and student achievement.

  1. Continued focus on small group instruction to remediate and enrich student learning in each core academic classroom.

  2. Differentiated professional development plan to give teachers topics in areas needed for their students.  These will be taught by teacher leaders in our building with support from county staff and resources.

  3. Continue learning walks for teachers to observe and learn effective instructional strategies from their colleagues.

 

  1. Excellence 4.C - World-Class Communication and Engagement

Improve two-way communication, engagement, and outreach to connect all stakeholders within the North Gwinnett Community.

  1. Provide families with a calendar of advisement and counseling lesson topics in the newsletter each month.
  2. Connect Instagram to Facebook so all of our postings go on both platforms; advertise following us on social media.
  3. Weekly newsletters sent by the school in ParentSquare, along with communication blasts to sub-groups when needed.
  4. Hold the second annual “Bulldog Thrive” night to support international family communication and engagement.
  5. Teachers update their "Week at a Glance" template in eCLASS to keep information accurate for families.
  6. Teachers regularly communicate with parents about academic performance.
  7. Elicit feedback for school improvement from community members through conversations with PTSA and School Council members.
