Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

South Gwinnett High School will expand its comprehensive framework to operationalize a multi-tiered system of supports to address academic and non-academic student needs and remove barriers to success.

  1. CLT Implementation & Development  
    • Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) work will have increase focus on small group Tier 1+ instruction.  

      • Bite-sized learning around small group instruction and effective learning targets 

      • Data talks timing will be adjusted to focus on formative assessment data. 

      • Small group focus will be included on the eClass lesson plan template. 

      • Monthly CLT's will be scheduled for "Looking at student Work" sessions. 

    • New Teachers will be supported through a variety of systems: mentoring, ongoing professional learning and monthly meetings. 

    • Instructional coaching cycles will be completed for all teachers with a tailored focus for new and developing teachers. 

    • New teacher induction meetings will focus on instructional strategies and pedagogy 

    • New and developing teachers will be provided with a mentor. 

  2. Working collaboratively with Office of Behavior Support & Interventions 

    • Monthly meetings with GCPS Behavior Coach and the Office of Behavior Support and Interventions for best practices and professional development.  

    • Monthly data collection and analysis of student behavior incidents, interventions, and outcomes.  

    • Distribution of surveys to teachers, students, and parents to gather feedback on the effectiveness of behavior support and interventions. 

  3. MTSS; Utilize peer observations, classroom walkthroughs and feedback (informal and formal) to enhance and monitor Tier 1 instruction (GTES)

We will increase the percentage of students taking and passing advance placement exams with the data and feedback derived within the EOS survey with 90% participation. 

We will increase instructional accountability for teachers, to effectively align instructional practices and strategies through:

  •  Gradebook monitoring with 20% or below of students in the failing category for each teacher.
  • 100% of teachers will utilize e-class as a supplemental educational resource for all schedule classes.
  • 90% of teachers will utilize the designated instructional framework to guide instructional practices.
  • 90% of teachers will submit artifacts on data analyzing during CLT's.

We will increase the percentage of stakeholders responding positively for the following questions derived from Gallup Q12 Survey BOY and EOY Staff SY 24-25:

  • Q04 – In the last seven days, I have received recognition or praise for doing good work.
  • Q05 – My supervisor, or someone at work, seems to care about me as a person.
  • Q09 – My associates are committed to doing quality work.

We will decrease the number of all students scoring in the beginning categories on the Georgia Milestones End of Course Assessment as follows:

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

South Gwinnett High School believes that when students are given support and enrichment to demonstrate mastery of academic knowledge and skills, each and every student will have opportunities to succeed. 

  1. Reviewing assessment data at least twice a year to identify students for additional services including gifted screening.
  2. Increased participation in the Professional Learning Communities for teachers. 
    • Focus Fridays will be monthly meetings dedicated to professional development for teachers. 
    • Outside Professional Consultants will work with the Administrative Team regarding best practices for instruction, assessments, and/or effective strategies for student success to include resources.
    • Weekly Collaborative Learning Team meetings to review data and ensure aligned AKS and QPTS strategies.

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

South Gwinnett High School will focus on high-quality instruction for all students while working to eliminate variance among classrooms to support all students in learning at high levels

  1. Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) work will be re-normed and have increase focus on all tier instruction. 
      • CLT leads will map out CLT sessions for each unit to ensure the CLT work cycle is planned for. 

      • Bite-sized learning around small group instruction and effective learning targets will be provided. 

        • Peer classroom observations will be incorporated in the professional development plan

      • Data talk protocol process and timing will be adjusted to focus on formative assessment data. 

        Release time will be provided as needed to CLTs to plan for effective instruction. 

  1. 2. New Teachers will be supported through a variety of systems.

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

  1. South Gwinnett High School will offer multiple opportunities for families to be informed and attend school-wide events, curriculum night, Title I parent workshops, cultural celebrations, fine arts presentations, principal and school feedback meetings, and competitive sports events. 
  2. South Gwinnett High School will provide academic curriculum resources for families, as well as resources to support the social, physical, emotional, and mental well-being of all students, as needs arise during the school year.
