Gwinnett County School District logo

Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

How will you measure growth?
Growth Factors (Baseline & Targets)
Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Woodward Mill Elementary will reduce the viability and increase the fidelity of High-Quality Tier 1 instruction implementation for all students. This includes targeted and data driven small groups, grade level curriculum pacing, and ongoing formative assessments, and progress monitoring.

  1. Woodward Mill Elementary teachers will participate in weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on teaching and learning to increase student achievement.
  2. Each and every student will be formally assessed on a regular basis to identify their individual needs. Through platforms such as iReady and formative assessments, students will consistently be provided opportunities for enrichment and remediation based upon the results of the progress monitoring data.
  3. Student learning will be individualized as much as possible through small group instruction.
  4. Teachers will have high expectations and provide quality and engaging daily instruction linked to a learning target for each and every student. Teachers will follow the newly revised workshop models. Daily monitoring of instruction will occur with ongoing feedback to teachers.
  5. Grading practices will be reviewed and revised to ensure alignment both grade levels and GCPS policies. Clear naming of assignments and weights will provide clear communication amongst parents, teachers, administrators, and students.
  6. Woodward Mill Elementary will continue to implement the MTSS process and use the MTSS Air Rubric to guide the process. The MTSS coordinator will receive ongoing training to help guide teachers and students.
  7. New teachers will participate in the New Teacher Cohort (NTO) that will meet monthly under the guidance of veteran teachers. This cohort will provide ongoing professional, real time learning to support effective classroom strategies such as behavior management, meeting deadlines, and pacing knowledge.
