Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

At Norcross Elementary, staff and student well being are critical levers to students' academic success. An intentional focus on well-being will support us in creating a positive, nurturing environment for students and staff resulting in belonging and positive student outcomes.

  1. Continue to fund a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coach
  2. Continue to fund an additional school counselor
  3. Continue to implement the Character Strong Curriculum to support Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and the PBIS program.
  4. Continue to provide PBIS and SEL professional learning opportunities
  5. Continue to implement the PBIS program
  6. Continue to recognize and celebrate students and staff through recognition activity and events; providing materials and supplies for the recognition
  7. Continue to update and redesign professional and learning spaces 
  8. Train identified staff in the Marcus Prevention Program and provide ongoing training throughout the school year

 

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

At Norcross Elementary, multi-tiered systems of support in behavior and academics are important to meet the diverse needs of our learners to ensure positive student outcomes. We will continue to use our data driven processes to identify students who need acceleration and enrichment in academics and behavior.

  1. Implement MTSS processes with fidelity and use the rubric to determine strengths and areas for growth

  2. Continue to train all staff in MTSS and provide ongoing professional learning of MTSS (focus on strategies within the three tiers)

  3. Continue to  train all staff on Universal Screener and how to use the data to support and differentiate student learning 

  4. Continue Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) Meetings twice a week to analyze the standards and common assessments, share and review lessons, review and analyze student work with grade level team members, instructional coaches, district support staff using the eComm resources. 
  5. Provide release time opportunities for additional instructional planning. 
  6. Implement 45 minutes of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to provide interventions/extensions.

  7. Extended learning will be offered to students who are working to achieve mastery and proficiency of the reading and math AKS. 
  8. Continue Implementation of EL Education and strategically build in GMAS preparation throughout the school year. 

  9. Train all teachers in grades K-5 on the reading foundational skills. 
  10. Conduct data talks (screener data, unit assessment, teacher created assessments, and district assessments). Data talks to include iReady data talks for the Fall, Winter, and Spring.

  11. Continue to prioritize small group differentiated instruction for literacy and math in all grades, and for 4th -5th to include science and social studies 

  12. Participate in district professional learning and local school professional learning

  13. Continue to increase staff ESOL and Gifted endorsements

  14.  Support students in student led conferences during Parent conferences; student led conferences will be differentiated based on grade level

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Norcross Elementary will provide the opportunity for students to  access high quality instruction and materials, and to participate in engaging learning activities that complement the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS).

  1. Train staff on Instructional Conversations (IC) and redeliver information
  2. Continue collaborative learning teams (CLT) during common planning time with an emphasis on Multilingual (ML) strategies (such as Instructional Conversations. and WIDA language development framework)

  3. Provide students with the opportunity to connect learning to real life situations, such as fieldtrips.
  4. Provide students with personal goal setting opportunities for reading and math
  5. Teachers will provide differentiated instruction through small groups in literacy and math. 
  6. Continue to offer student clubs and activities to promote student engagement and belonging
  7. Offer writing opportunity for students to publish books
  8. Continue to screen students for the gifted and talented program. 
  9. Offer gifted cluster classrooms

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

  1. Continue to increase parent volunteers and continue to build their capacity.

  3. Continue to host Family Engagement Nights (Monster Math Night, Literacy Night, etc.)
