Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

We believe a positive work and learning environment results in positive learning outcomes for students. 

  1. Riverside will continue to promote and support student and staff wellbeing through school activities and events, both during the day and after school, that prioritize self-care, physical and mental health, and social emotional learning. 
  2. Teachers and staff will continually promote Riverside's BTL Values (Kindness, Responsibility, and Integrity) through daily instruction, classroom guidance lessons, and nonacademic activities.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Riverside Elementary will create and follow the necessary processes for each and every student to experience social and academic growth. 

  1. The iReady universal screeners in reading and math will be used to identify academic concerns and expedite support. 
  2. Teachers will meet two times per week with their Collaborative Learning Team to analyze performance data, plan instruction, and create assessments. 
  3. Collaborative learning teams will meet monthly to monitor identified student progress and determine next steps. 
  4. Teachers will consistently provide small group instruction. 
  5. Teacher will participate in ongoing professional learning focused on the new ELA standards as well as the EL literacy resources.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Riverside Elementary strives to provide the conditions under which each and every child receives what they need to develop their full academic and social potential. 

  1. All students will spend time in small group instruction in their math and reading classes on a regular basis for the purpose of intervention and enrichment. 
  2. Identified students in grades 1-5 will participate in weekly FOCUS resource classes. 
  3. Identified students in grades 3-5 will participate in Advanced Content Math. 
  4. Riverside Elementary will continue to promote our Play-2-Learn program where participating parents and children age birth to five meet once a week for 90 minutes with a certified teacher to learn how to nurture children's foundational skill development. 

The percentage of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 scoring at the proficient or distinguished levels on the Georgia Milestones Assessments will increase.
