Gwinnett County School District logo

Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

As Corley continues to support academic success for all students, as evidenced by instructional walkthrough observation data from the 2023-2024 school year, the need for an increased focus on small group instruction in both ELA and math has become evident.  This focus will ensure that students are provided appropriate remediation and enrichment across all grade levels.

  1. The Corley Administrative Team and/or Instructional Coaching team will conduct weekly walkthroughs.
  2. Instructional walkthroughs and evaluations will be scheduled during Intervention and Small Group instructional times within all content areas at least once monthly.
  3. Teachers will be required to provide evidence of small group planning and the specific progress of each student during small group instruction.
  4. During CLTs, small group planning will be part of grade-level planning time

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

This is the third year of implementation of the EL reading program and second year of moving from an exclusive use of the balanced numeracy framework to guide math instruction to include the task based model.  It is imperative that teachers understand how to implement instruction of the aforementioned frameworks through maximizing small group instruction.

  1. Parents will participate in workshops and receive resources focusing on ways to assist their students at home.  These workshops will focus on ELA and Math and strategies for ML learners.
  2. Professional learning opportunities will be offered throughout the school year to help build teacher capacity in the areas of planning, implementation, and monitoring of small group instruction. Education curriculum and the new math AKS standards.

  3. Title I funded Grade level Data Planning and release days will be used to plan for small group lessons and targeted instruction.

  4. Corley Elementary will offer Extended Learning Opportunities which could include remediation, enrichment, and Newcomer classes.
