NMAPA is committed to a positive school environment in which we support student and staff wellbeing. We believe in creating a positive learning environment for our students; where all students feel safe and that they belong, and can be fully engaged in the learning activities. We also believe that it is imperative to provide teachers and staff with the support to create a positive learning environment and ensure their well-being by prioritizing physical and mental health.
Provide Professional Learning Opportunities for teachers, counselors, and behavior interventionist to increase the fidelity of the implementation of morning meetings, SEL, PBIS, and Restorative Practices lessons.
Provide a focus on Staff wellness and health through training, support, and area in which staff can focus on physical, social, emotional, and mental health (professional learning room, a space for staff to connect and participate).
All teachers will be trained on Tier 1 PBIS & Classroom Organization Practices to implement and better support student engagement and needs.
Crisis Prevention trainer and team (CPT) identified will be trained on MCCP practices to help ensure staff and student safety.
Continued incorporation of Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports of student support through school-wide PBIS and recognition.
Maintaining an added Health & Wellness program, area, and events for staff to provide collaboration, engagement, and wellness support throughout the school year.
Each classroom will identify and implement strategies (PBIS & SEL) and space to support student wellness, behavior, and self-management.
Continued Counselor classroom lessons for all students. Small group and individualized sessions for identified Tier 2 & 3 students and those identified needing additional support
Counseling office will partner with School social worker to share information and/or connect families with community resources.
Create and maintain school clubs and extra curricular activities that create a sense of belonging & community building and engagement (this includes school groups that meet during the day and afterschool, related to the Arts, STEM, Sports, and Leadership.
Publish a weekly staff newsletter (NMAPA IMPACT Mag) providing just in-time updates, staff/student celebrations, and highlights of exemplary teaching & learning.
Provide live daily news show in the morning to the students and staff with information and highlighting & celebrating student/staff success & birthdays.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports
NMAPA believes that it is essential to support all students. NMAPA will correctly identify students' needs and provide them with the necessary skills that they are successful in their academic and non-academic classes by removing all barriers to success. NMAPA believes in providing teachers with the time to participate in professional learning opportunities to support the implementation of tiered supports.
Functioning MTSS team to lead professional learning and support for teachers

Administration will facilitate collaborative planning for teachers to work with district specialists and coaches
Teachers will utilize CFA data to inform instructional decisions and practices
Administer screener to identify individual level of student needs
Counseling will lead, collaborate, and plan support meetings to address student concerns or needs related to attendance, homelessness, grief, anger management, etc., with support staff such as local school staff, Social Worker, School Psychologist, and other itinerant staff

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access
NMAPA believes all students should have access to high-quality, rigorous, relevant and culturally related curriculum that including learning activities and opportunities.
Implement GCPS and school-wide instructional frameworks and GTES classroom look-fors.
Administer I-ready assessment to identify and provide more access for Gifted education for all students grades 1-5.
Build teacher capacity through CLT planning, collaborative planning release (WOW) days, and professional learning in the 4 core areas: ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
A focus will be on improving Literacy school-wide through the various activities: Daily reading time will be incorporated into class time; All students visit the Media Center weekly to checkout at least 1 or more book(s) to read and focus on literacy skills; Literacy night; Read Across America day with the GCPS Book Mobile visiting, Reading across the Arts week and Book Character Dress up day & parade in October.
All students will have an opportunity to learn in various learning areas of the school such as the collaboration space in the media center and the outdoor classroom including a vegetable, flower, and butterfly garden area, supporting their AKS.
Teachers will plan for the appropriate AKS instruction by creating lesson plans using school-wide Google doc template through collaborating with their grade level partner and/or team during planning and CLT time.
Teachers will use i-Ready, Amplify, IXL, and resources to provide support for students during small groups and SOAR intervention time.
Encourage teachers to obtain multiple endorsements and certifications to build capacity (3 teachers are enrolled in Gifted certification)

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System
NMAPA believes in having high standards and expectations for all students and staff to ensure student success. Research shows that high expectations drive student and staff success. Teacher effect has the most impact on student success.
Have high expectations and accountability in the area of professionalism for all staff (e.g., appearance, punctuality and attendance).
Provide staff with ongoing professional growth activities based on identified areas for improvement (e.g., mentoring, peer coaching, course work, conferences) that they incorporate into their classroom.
Create and implement New Teacher Orientation/Mentoring Program (New Kids on the Block) for staff new to NMAPA.
Build teacher capacity through CLT planning, collaborative planning release (WOW) days, and professional learning in the 4 core areas and teaching pedagogy and best practices.

Excellence 4.A - Preferred Education Destination
NMAPA is an elementary theme school {Performing Arts and the Arts being integrated into the school experience is a focus}. NMAPA is seeking to be the premier educational destination for all elementary students with this interest. In addition, NMAPA is also seeking to be the employer of choice for educators and staff to fulfill their careers.
Students participate in active discovery of all areas of Fine Arts: Drama, Music, Art, and Dance. In addition, students will use knowledge from the disciplines to implement learning of their AKS of course subjects. Grades 3-5 will select a concentration of their interest.
Specials teachers will provide extracurricular clubs or groups for student interest.
STEM opportunities are also offered to students through Robotics Club and STEM Science Innovation Fair participation.
Provide students opportunities to have Immersion Field Trips in the fine arts as well as educational field trips to expose them to multiple career and post college activities.

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -
At NMAPA, we will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.
Facilitate family engagement through Family Parent Center and Parent Outreach Liaison, with engagement activities that directly support student achievement in Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Provide families with learning opportunities, resources and materials through the Family Parent Center. (Literacy Night with Book Fair, Robotics/STEM Day, Arts Festival, Curriculum Night, Grandparents Day, Winter Holiday events, Spring Musical, Art tapestry, Arts' Recitals)
