Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being
  • Simonton ES will continue efforts to build an intentional, well-established, exemplary social and emotional learning (SEL) program that strategically provides cross-divisional support coupled with robust professional learning and resources for staff, students, and families.
  • Simonton ES will develop additional resources through the human resources department and the SEL office to provide mental health supports for staff, e.g., employee assistance programs, wellness coaching, stress management, etc.
  • Simonton ES will provide additional opportunities to elevate student and staff voice, ownership, and agency in the design of their school experience and be responsive to their requests.
  1. Students (Grades 3-5), staff and parents will participate in the Educational Effectiveness Survey in the spring of 2025.
  2. Students (Grades 3-5), staff and parents will participate in the Georgia Health Survey in the spring of 2025.
  3. Students in Grades 3-5 will participate in the Student Wellness Survey in the fall of 2024 and the spring of 2025.
  4. Counselors will conduct Mindfulness Mondays on the morning announcements each week.
  5. Counselors will conduct classroom guidance lessons for students in grades K-5.
  6. Counselors will conduct small group lessons to meet individual student needs.
  7. Team building and culture-sustaining activities will be planned for each month for all staff to participate.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Simonton Elementary School will build capacity to support and fully integrate non-academic tier 1 structures and processes such as school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS),SEL curriculum/competencies, attendance campaigns, school counseling programs, etc.
Formalize the academic response to intervention(RTI) process to reduce variability and improve the fidelity of implementation across all schools and grade bands.

  1. Teachers will use GCPS-approved resources to conduct progress monitoring and standardize the process.
  2. A designated date will be assigned to conduct Tier II data talks on each grade level K-5.
  3. Staff will be trained to enter data into Synergy.
  4. A data chart will be used to track progress monitoring for each student in Tier II and Tier III (academic and behavior) and determine it's effectiveness for the student and to make adjustments as needed.
  5. Teachers will use GCPS-approved resources to conduct progress monitoring and standardize the process.
  6. A designated date will be assigned to conduct Tier II data talks on each grade level K-5.
  7. A school-wide Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) team will be established again this school year.
  8. A formal process will be put in place to monitor students in need of Tier II and Tier III behavior support.

*Student progress will be monitored through the Simonton Elementary School MTSS monitoring tool.

*Student progress on iReady ELA and Math assessments will be analyzed by Simonton Elementary School teachers and administrators after each administration.

*The effectiveness of progress monitoring for each student will be entered into Synergy and shared at Student Support Team meetings.

*During Tier II data talks teachers and administrators will use student academic and behavior data to determine if interventions are successful or if other interventions should be considered.  A datasheet is used to track student progress.

*The Simonton ES MTSS Coordinator will keep track of the number of students in Tier II and Tier III support for academic and behavior support.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Simonton Elementary School will increase opportunities to learn through consistently implementing a high-quality curriculum that reflects grade level expectations, focusing on early literacy and the science of reading, and identifying subjects and grades to target for improvement through third-party curriculum audits.

Simonton Elementary School will continue to offer students opportunities to engage in and access high-quality, rigorous, and culturally relevant curriculum, advanced coursework (e.g., Advanced Placement and dual enrollment), and enrichment activities (e.g., the arts, gifted, STEM, career technical education).

  1. Simonton Elementary School will increase the number of students served in the gifted program.
  2. Increase opportunities and pathways for all students to demonstrate eligibility for gifted/talented programming.
  3. Simonton ES will increase the reading proficiency level of students in grades K-5 using the EL Education program.
  4. Simonton ES will increase the number of students successfully participating in ELA, Math Advanced Content classes in grades 3-5 and the Advanced Content Science class in 5th grade.
  5. A STEM camp will be offered to students in grades K-5.
  6. Simonton ES will increase the number of students attending Camp Invention and the Gwinnett Alliance for Gifed Education Saturday and Summer Exploration program.

*Simonton ES will evaluate the results of the Local School Plan for Improvement and the Results-Based Evaluation System to drive continuous improvement and reflect world-class standards are defined in the current Board policy.

*Simonton ES will implement metrics that focus on improvement, growth, and achievement status.

  1. The Simonton ES Local School Plan for Improvement will be created using data from the 2024 Title I Needs Assessment.
  2. Staff, community and student feedback will be used to determine goals, action steps and the implementation design.
  3. All certified staff will establish Results-Based Evaluation System goals at the beginning of the school year.  The goals will be updated midyear and at the end of the school year.
  4. All certified and classified members, who hold certificates, will create professional learning goals at the beginning of the school year.  The Professional Learning Goal will be updated mid-year and at the end of the school year.

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

  1. Workshops on a variety of topics will be made available to parents (e.g. Math, Literacy, eCLASS,)
  2. Title I Needs Assessment and Title I Parent meetings will be conducted annually.
  3. The Parent Center will be open daily for parents to check out instructional materials.  
  4. Simonton Elementary School will continue to offer school-wide events to engage with our families and community (e.g. Literacy Night, Holiday Luncheon, Multilingual Family Workshop).

Visitor attendance will be taken at all events.
