Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.A - Cultural Competence

At Pharr Elementary School, we are dedicated to celebrating our cultural diversity and advancing our cultural competence. We achieve this through focused professional development and events that recognize and honor the contributions of all communities. By increasing the knowledge of individual staff members, we aim to improve instructional delivery, strengthen programs, and enhance engagement across our entire diverse community.

 

  1. Pharr Elementary Family Engagement Committee will organize events and activities that celebrate the diverse cultures represented within our school. These events are designed to enrich the learning experiences and school environment for all students, staff, and community members.
  2. Pharr Elementary School will continue to host a Cultural Evening that celebrates and showcases our families through the diverse expressions of art, music, science, technology, and literacy.
  3. The media selection committee will continue to focus on increasing the number of culturally relevant texts available in our classrooms and media center.

  4. Faculty and staff will increase their awareness of cultural events, religious holidays, and celebrations that may impact a child's attendance and engagement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

Pharr Elementary will provide students with the opportunity to engage in building self character, enrichment activities, and a variety of engaging after school clubs to enhance social emotional skills and to extend learning through extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.

Student Well Being:

Pharr Elementary will provide students with opportunities to participate in clubs that directly relate to their interest.

Pharr Elementary will continue school clubs with an emphasis on the Student Council to empower student voice.

Pharr Elementary will utilize CharacterStrong resources for SEL instruction (morning announcements, monthly parent newsletters, daily lessons for teachers).

Pharr Elementary will continue to implement Joyful Learning, our school's unique approach to morning work for all students.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Pharr Elementary School is committed to implementing a comprehensive framework to fully operationalize a multi-tiered system of supports to address academic and non-academic student needs and remove barriers to success.

Pharr Elementary School will continue their Multi-Tiered Student Support (MTSS) by implementing a Universal Screener to address academic support and supported community to identify students for instructional support and social emotional growth.

Pharr Elementary School will be continue to provide the Play to Learn program to support the development of early childhood growth in the Brookwood community.

Pharr Elementary School will continue to enhance and expand Academic Knowledge & Skills (AKS) learning for Response To Interventions (RTI) with Tier I, II, and III small groups, and Focused groups for Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) through Rams Time.  Rams Time is an opportunity to extend and support the learning of students in the areas of math and reading.

Pharr Elementary School will show growth on the Reading i-Ready assessment by increasing the percentage of students meeting or exceeding their median % progress toward typical growth from 56% to 66%.

a.) In order to check that our students are on target to meet their typical growth goal by the end of the year, at mid year, our school’s median percent progress towards Typical Growth will meet or exceed 76%.

 

Pharr Elementary School will show growth on the Reading i-Ready assessment by increasing the percentage of students meeting or exceeding their median % progress toward stretch growth from 31% to 35%.

 

Pharr Elementary School will show growth on the Math i-Ready assessment by increasing the percentage of students meeting or exceeding their median % progress toward typical growth from 56% to 66%.

a.) In order to check that our students are on target to meet their typical growth goal, by the end of the year,  at mid year, our school’s median percent progress towards Typical Growth will meet or exceed 66%.

Pharr Elementary School is committed to expanding student opportunities to engage in and have access to high quality, rigorous, culturally relevant curriculum, and advanced coursework that allows them to achieve and master milestone skills at each grade level.    

Pharr Elementary School is committed to enhance the Professional Learning Community (PLC) schoolwide that focus on the fundamental questions:

  1. What do we want all students to know and be able to do?
  2. How will we know if they learn it?
  3. How will we respond when some students do not learn?
  4. How will we extend the learning for students who are already proficient?

Pharr Elementary School will continue to implement a school schedule that is provides students a high quality, rigorous, culturally relevant curriculum, and advanced coursework that allows them to achieve and master milestone skills at each grade level.

Pharr Elementary School is committed to ensuring students have access to technology. Students in grades 2-5 will participate in the 1:1 technology transformation.

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

Pharr Elementary School is committed to enhancing our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement learning in reading, math, social studies, science, and technology by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

    1. Provide English and/or Technology classes for parents who desire to learn the English language.

    2. Provide Technology classes for parents who desire to learn how to use technology tools to support learning at home.

    3. Schedule community engagement events.

    4. Improve the Parent Center with materials for parents to check out

    5. Provide materials and training to help parents to work with their children to improve their children's achievement.

    6. Continue to implement the Play2Learn program for children from birth to age 5.

Pharr will show an increase in the percentage of positive parent responses on the EES survey results regarding school communication, effectiveness, opportunity, and access.
