Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Taylor Elementary will increase the fidelity of High-Quality Tier 1 instruction implementation for all students, including targeted small groups, grade-level curriculum, ongoing formative assessments, and progress monitoring to support ALL students.

 

1. Teachers will meet three times a week with the support of content coaches.  During collaborative learning time, teachers will share best practices, analyze data, and implement the “backward” design to ensure instruction leads to student mastery of the summative assessment.

2. Teachers will review K-5th Grade iReady Diagnostic Assessment Data to ensure students are reaching/exceeding predicted outcome scores.

3. A grade-level improvement plan will be implemented to provide goals for each grade level to work toward. (Data goals, teacher actions, evidence of teacher resources used in the classroom, and listed resources and manipulatives) Professional learning on understanding and using I-Ready reports.

4. Track grade level typical and stretch I-Ready goals in reading and math.

5. Multilingual case managers will provide differentiated support to students and content teachers to close language gaps for multi-language learners.

6. Multilingual resources will be used and shared to support multilingual students.

7. The counseling team will work with individual students and parents to develop a check-in system to support school attendance for students with over ten absences.

 

·       Universal screeners will be administered and used to identify the needs of students.

·       Counselors will continue to encourage and celebrate good attendance, support students and their families, and provide classroom guidance lessons, small group interventions, individualized support, and daily check-ins that offer early intervention and additional help in academic and non-academic areas. 

·       We have a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) in place, two counselors, Early Intervention Program (EIP) teachers, instructional coaches, and school-wide PBIS practices in full implementation.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Taylor will expand student opportunities to engage in and have access to high-quality, rigorous, and culturally relevant curriculum advanced coursework and enrichment activities.

 

      1.     Play 2 Learn opportunities will continue for families with children from birth to 5 years old.

2.     Offer various gifted services, including Two Model Classrooms, language-focused Thinking Skills, Content Replacement Model and Cluster Model, STEM Hour, research, and module extension lessons through media.

3.     We will offer a variety of enrichment clubs, including Robotics, Chess, Musicals, the Yearbook, Readers' Rally, Safety Patrol, and Courses.

4.     Utilize all available options for qualifying students for gifted services, including Universal Screeners, the Creativity Test, and a portfolio option when needed.

5.     Grow our Culture and Inclusion Committee effectively to raise awareness in the community and increase understanding and inclusivity. Offer high-quality, culturally relevant Tier 1 instruction to all students.

6.     Implement "soft starts school-wide for students to experience unstructured play that allows our students to practice prosocial behaviors, ignite their imagination and creativity, and engage in reasoning. 

7.     Strengthening SEL implementation for students during school, parent support through our parent center, and staff members through our Wellness Wednesdays and Sunshine committee.

8.     Daily targeted intervention time (Eagle time) provides opportunities for each student to receive enrichment and remediation.  

9.     Utilizing PBIS school-wide and offering incentives to encourage positive behaviors towards meeting school-wide expectations.

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

Taylor will implement a Results-Based Evaluation (RBES) focusing on academic press and a supportive community to increase student achievement, well-being, and success. 

 

             

  1. Staff will examine baseline data and create and monitor targeted goals (District Assessment, Milestones Benchmark).
  2. Collaborative learning teams (CLTs) will include small group instruction around student progress data, work samples, and data review/talks. Content-lead coaches and administration will facilitate AKS analysis and explicit modeling for Math, ELA, and science strategies teachers.
  3. To increase student achievement, tiered interventions based on the Multi-Tiered System of Support will continue to be implemented.
  4. Coaching cycles will continue as needed to increase teachers' effectiveness in classroom instruction and classroom management.
  5. Organize professional development sessions for teachers to familiarize them with the new multilingual resources and encourage them to integrate these strategies into their curriculum, enhancing support and interventions for multilingual education across the school.
  6. Taylor Elementary will implement consistent instructional walkthroughs with the administrative team. This strategy will assist the leadership team with the next steps and provide support.

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

 

1.  We will continue to promote participation in the EES family survey through the PTA, the Local School Council, and Parent Square.

2.  Utilize Parent Square as our primary form of communication with parents.

3.  Parents will participate in workshops and receive resources to assist their students at home. These workshops will focus on ELA, math, and strategies for ML learners.

4.  Parent/Teacher Conferences and additional parent workshops to share progress and provide information and take-home resources regarding MTSS.

5.  Building positive relationships with families and the community.

6.  Engagement events (Open House, Curriculum Night, Literacy Night, Math/STEM Night) geared towards empowering families to impact student achievement in the home.
