Gwinnett County School District logo

Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

How will you measure growth?
Growth Factors (Baseline & Targets)
Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

The implementation of a comprehensive framework to fully operationalize a multi-tiered system of supports to address academic and non-academic student needs will result in removing barriers to success.

  1. Target Chronic Student Absenteeism - In addition to providing intervention for those students struggling with attendance, Lanier Middle School will provide regular communication with families regarding their student's attendance and will develop and implement a program to recognize students for both positive attendance and improvement in attendance.

  2. Academic Supports - Lanier Middle School will accelerate learning as a means to close achievement gaps through the use of academic supports such as i-Ready, Amplify, Achieve 3000, Read 180, and REP Programming during its CQI period.

  3. Data Review – Teachers will review student performance data during monthly Kid Talk meetings to identify students in need of additional support and will initiate communication with families, match students with supports, and monitor the progress resulting from those supports.

  4. PBIS/Behavior Intervention - Lanier Middle School will continue to recognize, celebrate, and model positive behaviors of students.  Additionally, the school will continue to refine the Student Intervention Center to implement restorative practices as well as assign/train specific teachers in early behavior intervention as a response to minor discipline behaviors.

  5. Student Goal-Setting - As a foundational Tier I support, students will participate in academic goal-setting lessons and conferences to promote positive academic and attendance behaviors.

  6. Universal Screeners - Lanier Middle School will administer academic and wellness universal screeners to students to provide early intervention and acceleration.
