Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Nesbit Elementary School will implement a comprehensive framework to fully oper­ationalize a multi-tiered system of supports to address academic and non-academic student needs and remove barriers to success.

  1. Implement a daily 45-minute intervention and enrichment block for reading and math by:

·       Creating a master schedule that ensures dedicated time for all grade levels

·       Using assessment data to group students by specific needs 

·       Providing targeted instruction and enrichment activities led by classroom teachers and support staff.

  1. Utilize universal screener data to identify areas of need and giftedness.
  2. Develop strategies and supports for Multilingual Learners, gifted students, and students with disabilities.
  3. Reduce variability and increase the fidelity of High-Quality Tier 1 instruction implementation for all students, including targeted small groups,
    grade level curriculum, ongoing formative assessments, and progress monitoring. 
  4. Implement a schoolwide comprehensive attendance plan by:

·       Establishing an attendance team, tracking daily attendance data, identifying students at risk of chronic absenteeism, and using targeted interventions and family engagement strategies to improve student attendance and promote a culture of showing up every day.

Growth will be measured by decreasing the Chronic Absence Rate data to align with state: Baseline 18.7% Target 15%

ML English Progress towards English Language Proficiency based on growth on ACCESS: Baseline: 85% Target 87.5%

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Nesbit Elementary will expand student opportunities to engage in and access high-quality, rigorous, and culturally relevant curriculum.

  1. Professional learning opportunities for teachers that promote future ready best practices in teaching and learning to support high-quality tier 1 instruction for all students.
  2. Implementation of Instructional Conversation (IC) by embedding structured academic discussions into daily lessons using targeted questioning, student discourse protocols, and collaborative tasks that promote critical thinking, language development, and conceptual understanding.
  3. Utilize formative data to refine small group strategies and to identify students for small group instruction.
  4. Provide access and opportunities for students to participate in extended learning.
  5. Provide opportunities for student collaboration in an outdoor learning classroom focused on AKS-driven tasks, inquiry, exploration, and hands-on learning.

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

  1. Family workshops for parents to target awareness for the following topics:
    1. Attendance
    2. Testing
    3. Parent English Classes
  2. Title 1 family and staff events - Literacy, STEM, & MLL/Sped. Nights
  3. Community Outreach led by our Parent Instructional Coordinator & Parent Liaison
  4. Parent/Teacher conferences twice a year. 
  5. Conduct monthly Muffins with Miller the Principal to give stakeholders a voice in what matters most to them.
  6. Nesbit create welcoming and inclusive spaces that foster meaningful family involvement and engagement, recognizing families as essential partners in supporting student success and promoting a strong school-community connection.
