Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Riverside Elementary will create and follow the necessary processes for each and every student to experience academic and social growth. 

  1. The iReady universal screeners in reading and math will be used to identify academic concerns and expedite support.
  2. Teachers will consistently provide explicit, high-quality tier I instruction including universal response strategies and daily small group instruction in reading, writing, and math. 
  3. Teachers will meet two times per week with their collaborative learning team to analyze performance data, plan instruction, and create assessments. 
  4. Collaborative learning teams will meet monthly to monitor identified student progress and determine next steps. This work will be guided and supported by the local school MTSS coordinator. 
  5. Teachers will participate in ongoing professional learning focused on the new ELA standards as well as high-quality tier I instructional strategies. 

The percentage of students in grades 1-5 performing on or above grade level on the iReady reading assessment will increase:

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Riverside Elementary strives to provide the conditions under which each and every child receives what they need to develop their full academic and social potential. 

  1. All students will spend time in small group instruction in their reading, writing, and math classes on a regular basis for the purpose of intervention and enrichment. 
  2. Teachers will evaluate student progress and provide grades that represent each student's academic achievement and level of mastery. Evaluation and grading will be conducted in the context of ongoing classroom activities. 
  3. Students served in the ML program will spend the majority of the academic day with an ESOL certified teacher. 
  4. Identified students in grades 1-5 will participate in weekly FOCUS resource classes. 
  5. Identified students in grades 3-5 will participate in Advanced Content Math. 

The percentage of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 scoring at the proficient or distinguished levels on the Georgia Milestones Assessments will increase.
