Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Walnut Grove Elementary will reduce variability and increase fidelity of high quality Tier 1 instruction implementation for all students, including grade level standards using district resources, targeted small groups, ongoing formative and summative assessments, and progress monitoring. 

  1. Walnut Grove Elementary will participate in weekly professional development sessions and collaborative learning teams focused on decreasing variability in teaching and learning to increase student achievement. In addition, teachers will participate in 1 full day planning per quarter to build pacing and alignment to provide more opportunities for peer observations and strategy modeling throughout the school year. 
  2. Teachers will have high quality expectations and provide quality and engaging instruction to each and every student. 
  3. Frequent monitoring of instruction will occur through walkthroughs and consistent feedback both formally and informally. This feedback will be provided to enhance and monitor Tier 1 instruction. 
  4. Walnut Grove will implement the GaMTSS process and utilize the GaMTSS Rubric and Team Fidelity Tool to analyze data and determine the next steps. 
  5. New teachers will participate in our mentor program to provide support for classroom instructional strategies. 
  6. Walnut Grove will continue to support teachers through the CLT and professional development process to include collaboration from all departments, including ML, Special Education, and Gifted to ensure high expectations for all students. ML learners, Special Education, and Gifted students will be supported through the Gifted content, collaborative, cluster and pull out models.

Walnut Grove will increase opportunities for students to receive the support needed to increase individual achievement and to be engaged in high quality rigorous and culturally relevant curriculum. 

  1. iReady screeners will be reviewed to identify students for additional services such as Tier 2, Tier 3, and enrichment. 
  2. Eagle Time will be used to meet the individual needs of all students. High quality and rigorous Tier 1, 2, and 3 instruction will be used as appropriate with students. 
  3. Computer Science and STEM will continue to be a regular Specials course offered to students in grades K-5
  4. All Gifted students will be taught by Gifted certified teachers and 3 teachers will participate in the GCPS Gifted Endorsement Program. 
  5. Lego League and Robotics will continue to be offered as a club that provides opportunities for students to build critical thinking. 
  6. ML Learners will receive individualized instruction from the lead ML teacher daily during Eagle Time.
  7. All students will receive small group instruction in their math block, reading block, and Eagle Time. 
  8. Teachers will continue to build self efficacy on using data to drive instruction, choosing high quality Tier 1 instructional strategies, and collaborating during weekly CLT's.

  1. Weekly digital newsletters will be sent- The Grove to parents and the Eagle Update to teachers. 
  2. We will continue to offer all communication in both English and Spanish to meet the communication needs of our multilingual families. 
  3. Teachers will continue to update Google Classroom and use Parent Square to allow for meaningful parent engagement.
  4. Increased communication strategies: 
    • Continue using Daily and Friday Folders.
    • Recognize positive student behavior via positive referrals, PBIS points, emails, and phone calls.
    • Continue to participate in PTA and school sponsored events.
    • Principal will hold one on one conversations each semester with staff.
    • Monthly staff and parent "Doughnuts and Coffee with the Principal" will be held. 
  5. International Family Night will be held in the spring to celebrate our diverse community.
  6. Monthly "Doughnuts with Dudes" with PTA will be held to increase communication and create a safe place for the men in our students' lives. 
  7. Parents and staff will continue to be encouraged to become members of the PTA and serve on a committee.
