Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

North Gwinnett Middle School will focus on high-quality Tier 1 instruction for each and every student.

  1. Align the new GaMTSS School Fidelity Tool with our PBIS and MTSS teams; meeting monthly to review progress towards our yearly goals.
  2. Prioritize CLT professional development ("Instructional Framework Chats" once a month) focused on student goal-setting, targeted small group instruction, and enrichment activities that promote collaboration and problem-solving among students.
  3. Utilize peer observations, classroom walkthroughs, and feedback (informal and formal) to enhance and monitor Tier 1 instruction (GTES).
  4. Offer professional development sessions on digital learning days, led by teacher leaders, with opportunities for staff to select focus areas aligned with either academic rigor or building a supportive school community in the classroom.
  5. Add a second advisement day dedicated to strengthening relationships between students, homeroom teachers, and case managers, while integrating student goal-setting into discussions about academic performance across all subjects.
  • Looking at a multiyear trend data analysis, our goal is for a 5% increase in students scoring proficient and distinguished, including a 3% increase in the distinguished category as measured on the 2026 administration of the Georgia Milestones grade-level content assessments for 6-8 Language Arts, Math, and 8th grade Science and Social Studies.
  • Students scoring in the mastered category on district-level final exams will each have an increase of 5% from the scores on the 2024-25 administration.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

North Gwinnett Middle School will expand student opportunities to engage in and access high-quality, rigorous curriculum and enrichment activities.

  1. Maintain opportunities for mathematics acceleration to support advanced learners, along with a diverse offering of Carnegie Unit classes for 8th grade students (Biology, Marketing, High School Physical Science, Spanish, French, Latin, German, Enhanced Algebra, and Accelerated Geomtery).
  2. Communication and implementation of our Instructional Framework with fidelity.
  3. Continue offering daytime clubs to give all students the chance to explore and engage in their individual interests.
  4. Utilize the i-Ready universal screener to help identify students eligible for gifted testing.
  5. Expand our "Bulldog Thrive" event, which brings together families of ML learners and at-risk students to discuss strategies for helping our students succeed.
  6. Clear, consistent, and timely communication about academic progress to parents through the gradebook.

North Gwinnett Middle School will be the top choice for students, families, and staff seeking an outstanding and enriching educational experience.

 

  1. Prioritize and promote high academic expectations and achievement for each and every student.
  2. Offer a diverse range of clubs, fine arts programs, athletics, and extracurricular activities to inspire students' college and career aspirations.
  3. Strengthen our active and supportive school community by involving families in events and using their feedback to enhance our practices.
  4. Develop a consistent, school-wide communication plan for parents by implementing a Google 'Week at a Glance,' which will be easily accessible on the NGMS website.
  5. Actively engage families by sharing school events through the NGMS weekly newsletter and personalized teacher updates via ParentSquare, fostering consistent and meaningful communication.
  6. Launch 'Coffee with the Counselors' sessions, featuring topics selected collaboratively by counselors and the community, to empower parents with tools and insights to better support their middle schoolers.
  7. Create a positive school culture that maintains a high level of employee retention.
