Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

At Norcross Elementary, we recognize that staff and student well-being are essential drivers of academic success. By fostering a nurturing, inclusive environment, we build a culture of belonging and positive outcomes.

 

  1. Sustain funding for the PBIS Coach and one additional counselor beyond general allotment

  2. Continue implementation of Character Strong to support SEL and PBIS

  3. Provide ongoing professional learning for PBIS and SEL strategies

  4. Deliver consistent PBIS programming schoolwide

  5. Celebrate students and staff through recognition events and materials

  6. Redesign and update professional and learning spaces and wellness spaces to inspire engagement

  7. Train designated staff in the Marcus Prevention Program, with ongoing sessions

 

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Our commitment to meeting the academic and behavioral needs of every learner is grounded in robust, data-informed MTSS processes.

 

  1. Implement MTSS with fidelity, guided by rubric-based reflection and train all staff in MTSS and tier-specific intervention strategies

  2. Provide training on Universal Screener data use for differentiation and foundational reading skills 

  3. Conduct twice-weekly CLT meetings focused on standards, assessments, lessons, and student work using and expand collaborative planning time for Science and Social Studies. In addition, provide release time to support deeper instructional planning

  4. Continue daily 45-minute CQI blocks for interventions and extensions and offer Extended Learning for students needing support in reading/math AKS

  5. Sustain EL Education and embed GMAS preparation across curriculum

  6. Host seasonal data talks using multiple data sources including iReady to plan for small group differentiated instruction in ELA, math, and 4th–5th science/social studies

  7. Encourage participation in national, state, district and school-based conferences and/or professional learning.

  8. Promote ESOL and Gifted endorsements for staff

  9. Support student-led conferences with age-appropriate scaffolding

 

 

 

 

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

We believe every student deserves access to engaging, high-quality learning experiences that reflect their world and expand their horizons.

 

  1. Provide professional learning on Instructional Conversations (IC); redeliver content

  2. Emphasize multilingual strategies during CLT, including WIDA framework and ICs

  3. Connect academic learning to real-world experiences through field trips

  4. Incorporate personal goal-setting for reading and math

  5. Use small group instruction for differentiated literacy and math support

  6. Offer clubs and enrichment activities to enhance engagement and belonging

  7. Create book selection opportunities to support personal libraries (e.g., Book Mobile)

  8. Foster Joyful Learning experiences in kindergarten classrooms

9. Provide essential resources and supplies to empower both teachers and students, fostering success for staff and students alike while ensuring equitable access and opportunities for all.

 

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

  1. Expand parent volunteer initiatives and leadership development

  2. Offer language classes to support multilingual families

  3. Host themed Family Engagement Nights (e.g., Monster Math, Literacy Night)

  4. Facilitate workshops to deepen family understanding of AKS

  5. Provide ongoing parent learning opportunities aligned to academic goals
