Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

Taylor Elementary recognizes the importance of cultivating a supportive and positive learning environment. After reviewing survey data from both staff and students,  an increased focus on wellbeing is essential. Taylor Elementary will prioritize the well-being of both staff and students to foster a strong school culture, ensuring continued success. 

  1.  The Administrative and Counseling Teams will collaborate with Taylor Elementary’s Peer Leaders to gather student perspectives on school safety. Once established, these student groups will engage with their peers to better understand their thoughts, concerns, and needs related to maintaining a safe environment at Taylor.
  2. Continue implementation of local school PBIS.
  3. Offer the International Club to support learning about a variety of cultures and customs.
  4. Offer clubs once a month to provide opportunities for students in non-academic areas of interest.  
  5. The Title I Parent Outreach Liaison will provide monthly academic and SEL tips for families via the Family Newsletter.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

To meet the needs of diverse learners and foster a whole learner approach, Taylor ES will strengthen the implementation of High-Quality Tier 1 instruction for all students, including rigorous ongoing assessment review and progress monitoring.

Instructional Framework 

  •  The instructional staff will focus on the fidelity of implementation of HQT1I, with the implementation of the Taylor Elementary School Instruction Framework.  This includes a strong focus on small-group instruction, data reviews, and reteaching/reassessing to ensure students master the grade-level content.

CLTs

  • Weekly CLTs will include a review of instructional strategies, modeling effective teacher moves, and a consistent review of student assessment data and student work to monitor student progress towards mastery.
  • Teachers will unpack GMAS assessment guides and align student tasks to ensure ample opportunity for practice, resulting in student mastery of GMAS assessments.

  • The Collaborative Learning Team (CLTs) will include: assessment/data analysis (formative & summative), student work sample protocols, AKS analysis, small group planning, and explicit modeling for teachers on Math/ELA strategies.

Learning Walks

  • Instructional Learning walks (Admin & Coaches) will be conducted in Math and Language Arts to ensure alignment to the standards. 

  • The Administrative Team will conduct learning walks to monitor Tier 1 instruction in the classrooms.  The team will calibrate on the look-fors and fidelity of implementation of the instructional strategies.  Data gathered from these Learning Walks will drive planning and professional learning provided during the school year.

GaMTSS

  • The MTSS coordinator will implement the Taylor ES MTSS Process with teachers to assist with providing appropriate interventions and monitoring of student progress throughout the school year.

Intervention

  • Data-driven interventions will be provided daily during Eagle Time, during which students receive enrichment and remediation. 

  • Coaching cycles will continue as needed to increase teachers' effectiveness in classroom instruction and classroom management.

  • Extended Learning Time opportunities will be provided throughout the year to remediate and extend students' learning based on student needs, data, and teacher input. 

GMAS -

  • Increase the percentage of students performing at the proficient and distinguished levels.

Eagle Time 

  • Daily targeted intervention and enrichment time will be implemented school-wide

Strengthen Relationships with Students through Daily Check-Ins

  • Teachers and staff implement morning greetings/SEL check-ins with students. (Morning Meetings/SEL Lessons in Specials)
  • Build on students' sense of belonging and well-being through Peer Advisory Team/ Peer Leadership.
  • The counseling team will work with individual students and their parents to develop a check-in system to support school attendance for students with absences exceeding 10. 

Implement a School-Wide Attendance Incentive Program

  • Recognize individual attendance milestones for students who are at risk with chronic absenteeism (certificates perfect attendance, grade level celebrations).
  • Counselors will develop and implement our school-wide attendance protocol tool.
  • MTSS team will meet monthly to discuss strategies and data points to increase school attendance.
  • Monthly Kid Talk/RTI meetings with Admin/MTSS team members present.

PBIS 

  •  Teachers will use PBIS to promote positive behavior in students.
  • Targeted messaging will be used during morning announcements to show the TES way. (Taking Responsibility, Be Engaged, and Show Respect)

Family Engagement/Building Parent Capacity -

We will build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing the activities identified in The Plan/The Promise.

1. EES Survey participation:

Promote and encourage parent and teacher participation in the Educational Effectiveness Survey (EES) to gather feedback on school climate, communication, and learning support.

2. Parent Square

Use ParentSquare as the primary communication tool to share academic resources, school updates, and strategies for supporting learning at home.

3. Parent Workshops

Host workshops focused on literacy, Multilingual strategies, math strategies, test preparation, technology use, and social-emotional learning to equip parents with practical skills to support their children’s learning.

4. Parent/Teacher Conferences

Provide opportunities for parents to confer in the fall and spring semesters, and as needed, to discuss student progress, review academic goals, and receive strategies for supporting their children at home.

5. Engagement Events

Organize family engagement events (STEM Night, Literacy Night, Fall Festival, International Night, Tree Lighting Event, etc.) that connect learning to fun and interactive experiences for parents and students.
