Gwinnett County School District logo

Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Growth Factors (Baseline & Targets)
Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

At Centerville Elementary School, data reveals a strong correlation between chronic absenteeism and student wellbeing.  Both are critical to academic achievement, engagement, and long-term success.  Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive approach that promotes a positive school climate, nurtures strong relationships, and removes barriers to attendance. By prioritizing both chronic absenteeism and student wellbeing, we are committing to creating a school culture where every student feels seen, supported, and motivated to attend and thrive.

  1. Expand the Buddy Brigade Mentorship Program where staff serve as consistent, trusted adults for targeted students.
  2. Weekly implementation of WIN/P.R.I.D.E Time focused on SEL competencies, PBIS expectations and use of Character Strong lessons.
  3. Professional learning opportunities will be provided to teachers and staff throughout the school year focused on SEL and PBIS strategies.
  4. Analyze EES survey data by grade level and student group to identify gaps in belonging and responsible decision-making.
  5. School counselors will conduct small group lessons to support students.
  6. Partner with families to create Student Attendance & Wellbeing Plans that include shared goals, strategies, and regular follow-up.
  7. See attached Local School Attendance Plan with additional support strategies.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Effective Tier I instruction is the foundation for academic success for all students. When instruction is delivered with consistency, aligned to grade-level standards, and responsive to ongoing data, students are more likely to achieve mastery and meet expected growth benchmarks.  As Centerville Elementary School works to close opportunity and achievement gaps, it is essential to reduce this variability and ensure every student receives equitable access to rigorous, high-quality instruction.

  1. Review Typical and Stretch Growth progress during grade level data team meetings and SIT meetings.
  2. Use i-Ready monitoring dashboard (school-wide and grade level) to identify students not meeting growth targets and adjust supports as needed.
  3. Create student-friendly data trackers to promote ownership of progress.
  4. Implement student data chats following each diagnostic to review growth goals and personalize next steps.
  5. Recognize student growth through schoolwide shout-outs, growth certificates, and classroom celebrations.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Equity in education means ensuring that all students regardless of background, language, or starting point have access to challenging, enriching learning experiences that support their full potential. At Centerville Elementary School, increasing the percentage of students identified for gifted services and improving the language proficiency rate of multi-language learners are two critical levers to ensure opportunity and access for all.  This dual focus strengthens our commitment to ensuring every child has equitable access to high-quality learning experiences and is supported to grow and thrive academically.

  1. Train all staff on the local and state gifted identification process, including teacher observation and rating scales.
  2. Support general education teachers in embedding language objectives into content instruction across all grade levels.
  3. Implement instructional strategies that support academic language development (e.g., sentence frames, vocabulary routines, visual supports).
  4. Monitor language proficiency growth using local screeners, formative assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
  5. Use data to adjust instructional groupings and supports regularly through collaboration between ESOL and classroom teachers.
  6. Provide schoolwide professional learning on culturally responsive instruction and supporting MLLs in content-area classrooms.
