Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Brookwood High School is committed to creating and sustaining an environment that prioritizes the well-being of students and staff.

 

Student well-being

1.  Students will have daily contact with an advisor including weekly lessons to include SEL, school connection opportunities, advisement lessons, and other lessons to support behavior and belonging.

2.  Students are given input into to plan for advisement and take leadership roles for 9th-grade students through the MERGE program.

3.  We will continue implementation of Principal's Student Advisory Committee to increase direct impact of student voice.

4.  We will continue to provide access to the over100 clubs/activities plus full varsity and sub-varsity athletic programs.

5.  Support for student academics and social well-being during guided study and intervention support opportunities. 

6.  Continued implementation of PBIS/Upstander Program

1.  We will maintain and strengthen our teacher recognition structure.  This includes our school-wide ABCD awards, our Excellence in Instruction, Excellence in Collaboration, & Excellence in Relationships teacher recognitions.

2.  We will offer teacher leadership development opportunities such as participation in Teachers as Leaders, Bronco Instructional Team leadership, Instructional Leadership Corps leadership, etc.

Brookwood High School believes that all students should be afforded the opportunity and access to high-quality, rigorous, advanced coursework (e.g. Advanced Placement and dual enrollment), and enrichment activities.  We believe that students who are highly engaged and challenged will have greater levels of success academically and behaviorally.

 

  1. We will continue to offer and encourage participation from all demographics of students in AP and dual enrollment course opportunities.
  2. We will maintain the Opt-in/Waiver process to ensure all students can access honors and AP coursework.

We will maintain or increase (71% in the 2024-2025 school year) the percentage of seniors who complete an AP or Dual Enrollment course during their high school career.

  1.  We will utilize Cohort Analyzer to provide specific feedback and support for student needs.  Our counseling team will continue to utilize and improve their Data Talk Template to specifically track and support students toward on-time promotion and graduation.
  2. We will monitor and improve strong instructional programming (AP, Dual Enrollment, CTE, Entrepreneurship, Fine Arts, etc.) to ensure students have a variety of options regarding rigorous and preparatory classes.

  3. We will maintain and support athletic and academic teams, along with clubs and activities, to ensure the needs of the whole learner are met.

  4. We will provide multiple opportunities for parents to connect with the school and teachers, including, but not limited to:  PTA, Local School Council, Brookwood Schools Foundation, 9th-grade parent night, 10th-grade parent night, 11th-grade parent night, 12th-grade parent night, curriculum night, and college futures night.

 

We will increase the percentage of the 9th-grade cohort that graduates in four years from approximately _____% to 95% as reported on the four-year Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate.  We will work specifically to improve the graduation rate of students served in the special education and ESOL programs. (Special Education 87.58% to 90%; ESOL 81.69% to 85%).  The previous year's data will be finalized in late August 2024.
