Gwinnett County School District logo

Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Growth Factors (Baseline & Targets)
Empathy 1.B - Staff and Student Well Being

Gwinnett Online Campus is focused on improving the overall wellbeing of our students and staff to meet the unique needs of individuals in the online/blended environment. GOC will implement programs targeting self-care, physical and mental health, and social emotional learning.

  1. A year-long theme - “Focus on the future,” will provide a structure for teachers and students to work toward excellence.
  2. A wellness coach has been contracted to work with students and staff, providing mindfulness strategies and lessons on campus and within the online learning environment.
  3. An Assistant Principal and teacher leader will lead faculty and staff in engagement and communication for student belonging and well-being.
  4. EES Surveys will be sent out directly from the principal to encourage participation from students and families.
  5. GSLT student leaders and the GOC leadership team will focus on student engagement to increase the EES Survey Results in Student Belonging.

EES Survey Results:

Student Belonging & Identity Category – Baseline for Tier I responses 60%

GOC will move the percentage of positive Student Belonging & Identity responses in Tier I to 65%.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

Gwinnett Online Campus identifies students’ individual needs and provides multiple layers of support specific to the whole learner. By implementing the district-wide comprehensive framework, GOC will address academic and non-academic student needs and remove barriers to success.

  1. Refine the onboarding process for new students.

  2. MTSS Team (including Administrators, Counselors, Teachers, and Intervention Teachers) organizes targeted interventions.

  3. iReady diagnostic assessments and instructional resources will be used to identify and monitor student progress for academic needs.

  4. iReady targets will be monitored by teachers and the intervention team.

  5. Personalized Learning with formative assessments to guide instruction.

  6. Data analysis from course and grade level teams that provide guide for instructional planning and delivery, including re-teach, re-assess process to drill into the student's understanding of the standards. (Targeted intervention)

Enrollment statistics and pass rates in programs through local school partnerships

Grades 1-5 Pass Rate Baseline 92.6%

GOC will raise the ES & MS pass rate to 95%

Special Education Pass Rates Baseline 90.4%

GOC will raise the SE pass rate to 95%

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

Gwinnett Online Campus has established a school-wide data analysis plan to outline ongoing activities and protocols to measure and monitor teacher effectiveness to support school improvement.

  1. Establish department and individual goals aligned to the LSPI through CLTs

  2. School-wide Data Analysis

  3. Addition of GRASP Counselor to focus on cohort graduation rate.
  4. GOC will target HS EOC Milestone Results based on the 2023-2024 CSI Needs Analysis.

  5. Based on the Comprehensive Needs Assessment conducted with the district CSI team, the following action steps will be taken in the CLT meetings to address EOC Milestone Results:

ELA: Develop mini-lessons based on the weakest domains. Chunk texts and integrate Q & R strategies. Continuous lesson revision to include more high-interest texts.

MATH, Science, and Social Studies: Continue to refine courses based on student performance data.

    School-wide action steps:

Review attendance policy to encourage student engagement.

Provide opportunities at the beginning of the year to meet with students to help develop their skills as online learners.

    Refine the PL orientations.

Provide on-campus opportunities for students who are not showing mastery.

GOC will provide teacher support for credit recovery courses.

  6. The K-12 counseling team will continue implementing a comprehensive plan to raise the graduation rate. Due to students entering outside of the cohort during their senior year, the overall graduation rate is outside of GOC's control. In addition to supporting these students who are outside of the cohort to ensure they graduate, the counseling team will focus efforts on raising the graduation rate of students who stay at GOC for more than one year.

Action steps are designed with the intent and purpose to address the needs identified by our comprehensive support and improvement (CSI) status.
