Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Harmony Elementary will reduce variability and increase the fidelity of High-Quality Tier 1 instruction implementation for all students, including targeted small groups, grade level curriculum, ongoing formative assessments and progress monitoring. 

  1. MTSS Leadership Team - Team consisting of administration, instructional coaches and counselor will meet regularly to monitor effective implementation of the schoolwide MTSS plan, including the development of a Harmony MTSS manual to guide processes, define roles, and support implementation.
  2. Data Analysis - Use universal screener, historical and progress monitoring data to identify students in need of additional tiered supports for academics, behavior, and attendance.
  3. Jag Time - Implement Jag Time into the master schedule for 30 minutes daily to focus on high-priority AKS for literacy and math in intervention and enrichment groups.
  4. Attendance - Develop and communicate a clear attendance plan and implement monthly attendance incentives.
  5. ML Instruction - Use Imagine Learning, strategic ESOL scheduling, and Emerging Bilingual Jag groups to ensure ML students receive daily language intervention with support from an ESOL teacher.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

Harmony Elementary will increase students' opportunities to learn and achieve by consistently implementing a high-quality curriculum that reflects grade-level expectations, focusing on early literacy and science of reading. 

1. CLT Meetings - Teachers participate in CLT meetings 2x weekly to analyze student work to monitor student performance for mastery of the AKS and collaboratively plan differentiated student tasks and small group responsive instruction. 

2. HQT1 Professional Learning - Teachers engage in professional learning of High Quality Tier 1 instructional practices to include QPTS, Elements of Explicit Instruction, and Quality Interactions using coaching cycles and bite-size staff development.

3. Instructional Walks - Teachers and administrators will engage in grade level learning walks, peer observations, and reflective feedback to monitor Tier 1 instruction and reduce variability between classrooms.

4. Scheduling - Intentional scheduling of AC Math (2-5) and AC Reading (3-5) as well as Thinking Skills courses to ensure students have access to extension opportunities.

5. Gifted Identification - Continued use of talent development during Jag enrichment, universal screeners, and portfolios to identify gifted and talented students.

Harmony Elementary intentionally incorporates opportunities for students to develop competencies defined by the Portrait of a Graduate.
