Accountability and flexibility are hallmarks of Gwinnett County Public Schools' success. Key to that success is ensuring that each school community understands the progress being made by its schools, as well as what plans will drive improvement. Each school creates a collaborative Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to increase student achievement results, with targeted goals based on the four strategic priorities within the district’s Blueprint for the Future: Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. All schools across the district will focus on goals 2A- Multi-tiered Systems of Support and 2B- Opportunity and Access. Additionally, schools are required to select one goal from each of the other strategic priorities. LSPI goals are dynamic, like our schools, and are updated to reflect changes that occur in schools. Multiple data points are used to determine areas needing improvement and to identify specific, measurable, annual objectives. Schools then determine how to use research-based strategies to achieve these goals, using flexibility as needed. The LSPI development process involves teachers, parents, students, and community members, so the entire school community has the opportunity to be involved in conversations about school improvement.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

GIVE Center East will use observational, anecdotal, performance, and student growth data to implement a comprehensive, fully operational framework of support to address academic and non-academic student needs, thus removing barriers to success. GIVE Center East will ensure that every student demonstrates critical thinking skills and has a clear path to improved academic and behavior outcomes. 

  1. The New Classroom Instruction That Works: The Best Research-Based Strategies for Increasing Student Achievement will serve as a book study to ensure that high-yield instructional strategies are being employed in each classroom. 
  2. GIVE Center East will actively monitor all students granted an Early Return Contract for contract completion with 30, 60, 90 day progress checks.
  3. Daily Check In/Check Out interventions for select students
  4. Reflect & Restore program will emphasize on strategically re-teach GCPS and campus expectations. GIVE Center East students will have a restorative re-entry to class (when applicable).
  5. MTSS Data Team meets monthly to develop data-driven, individualized interventions to increase student learning and behavior outcomes in the classroom. 
  6. Kid Talk meetings will occur on a weekly basis to discuss and devise strategies for students that are demonstrating academic and/or behavior concerns. Teachers will be provided with additional strategies (inclusive of progress monitoring) and support to use in the classroom.
  1. On the 2024 Georgia Milestones, GIVE Center East will decrease the percent of students scoring in the Beginning category in each EOG and EOC subject area by 10%.
  2. On the 2024 Georgia Milestones, GIVE Center East will increase the percent of students scoring in the Proficient category in each EOG and EOC subject area by 10%.
Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

At GIVE Center East we believe all students should have access to a rigorous curriculum paired with intimate support and opportunities to engage in relevant, individualized learning experiences that prepare students to be successful beyond the K-12 environment.

  1. Transportation for all students assigned to GIVE Center East through the tribunal process
  2. Quarterly parent information sessions around dual enrollment, post K-12 options, and the ASVAB assessment
  3. Gwinnett Technical College dual enrollment partnership
  4. 11th and 12th grade classroom guidance lessons that focus on the benefits of dual enrollment and ASVAB testing

Effectiveness 3.A - Results-Based Evaluation System

Redesign Results-Based Evaluation System (RBES) by redefining the inputs, behaviors, and outcomes that determine standards for student success. GIVE Center East will increase the percent of students in grades 10-12 that earn credits to reestablish on track graduation status with their graduation cohort.

  1. Building credit and course recovery options into our academic day as well as offering extended learning time opportunities.
  2. Weekly observation cycle conducted by administrators that focuses on growth-evoking feedback to improve practice.
  3. Observation cycle schedule that supports administrators in prioritizing classroom visits. Each AP will have at least 45 minutes per day of uninterrupted time allocated for learning walks.
  4. Peer Observations-school wide observation protocol for teachers to give and receive feedback from their peers.

At GIVE Center East we believe all stakeholders need to be informed and given the opportunity to provide input for shared decision making. We will accomplish this through transparent, two-way communication to build stakeholder trust and confidence. 

  1. Build our parents' capacity to support their children's academic achievement by implementing family engagement activities identified in The Plan/The Promise (brochures available on site, family engagement meeting information shared on our website).
